Okay, everyone needs to calm down a bit.

The prevalence of mass shootings in this country (57 this year alone, but who’s counting?) has turned a lot of people into Nervous Nellies. Decades ago, one would see a kerfuffle in a crowd and assume that some horrible couple got into a fight. Now, you’re never sure if a dispute is just someone filming a TikTok prank, or a kid who spent too much time on Discord then got into his dad’s shotgun cabinet.

What a time to be alive!

Such fear can result in some pretty insane situations. For example, according to Fox 4, there was a physical altercation at Dallas’ NCA All-Star National Championship cheerleading competition that led to “multiple poles” being knocked over, whatever the hell that means (seriously, not one outlet has explained it!).

Whatever it was, it either made enough of a sound or caused enough of a panic that people believed there was an active shooter. And so, they started to run, eventually falling over each other and injuring 10 people in the process.
